TOUCH: Inside a Bag No.2

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

Today’s “Touch” Segment in Loving’s Five Senses explores the contents of mon sac – an Alaia burgundy leather hobo bag embroidered with gunmetal studs:

A Tube of the japanese YU-BE moisturizing skin cream
A little tub of La Mer cream
An Auric Blends perfume oil stick in Chinese Rain. Very hippie
A “Black Orchid” sheer lipstick from Laura Mercier that my lovely blond friend Kirsten inspired me to buy
An Ole Mathiesen quartz watch with a black gator wristband
A key-chain with a miniature surfboard that my mom bought in Malibu; a bundle of red Peruvian seeds known as huayruros ; and a Key-fob to the Little West 12th Street Dog Run.
A genuine cabretta leather wallet filled with Castor & Pollux business cards
Lapis Lazuli clip-on earrings from Chile
A pair of black lamb skin gloves lined with merino wool from Filippa K
A Blackberry Torch: Notice how my emails don’t require a disclaimer asking you to disregard typos…
A rose-quartz with the word “dream” written on it that my sister gave me
Sunflower-yellow silk diary that includes a vintage photograph of Denmark’s King Christian X mounted on horse-back outside of his summer residence Sorgenfri during World War II
An excerpt from Henry Miller’s Tropic of Capricorn that my Norwegian friend hand-wrote for me
A sticker of the brown/beige self portrait of Picasso that my 5 yr old niece Emma gave me

TOUCH: INSIDE A BAG No.1

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

I love peeking inside someone’s bag and getting a glimpse into their little edited world. It’s similar to walking by brownstones in Brooklyn at night and seeing how they live. I know magazines have been doing this forever but I still get a little thrill from it. I hope you do too.

Today I present my bag contents to you.

Starting at 2 o’clock:

The Castor & Pollux Cap Bag prototype (I’ve been testing this out for the past month and a half and have to say…I LOVE IT. These will be in store at the beginning of the year just in time for all your resolutions of getting organized.

Oliver People’s sunglasses that I bought on my last trip to Portland. Yes, it is sunny there sometimes.

By Terry Baume de Rose lip balm. Crazy expensive but crazy good. Will have in the store and on the site within the next week. Nice stocking stuffer.

iPhone.

Smythson yearly planner. Need to get a new one soon but not Smythson this time around. It’s diminutive size and grace doesn’t work for my full days. Suggestions?

Odeon pen snagged from weekly Cafe Cluny breakfast. (Sorry).

Hermes watch. Not sure why that’s in there but it’s been a long week.

Sunspire coconut bar to get me through this long week. Thanks Health & Harmony.

McBride Multi-Purpose Repair Stick. My friend, Wini, makes these and I always have one in my bag. Great for lips, chapped skin, scrapes. These will be on the site soon.

Of course, our wallet. This one is 10 years old and no worse for the wear. Again, a great thing to help with your organization plans. It truly works and is life changing. I don’t say that lightly.

Pouch from Mayle from my friend, Cindy. Good for corraling extraneous things that inevitably land in my bag.

Super lo-fi Nook. No internet, no apps, black and white. Strictly for reading. Especially books like IQ-84 that clocks in at 1200 pages. I don’t think I’d ever finish it without the Nook as I do most of my reading on the subway.

What’s in your bag?
